FUNDAMENTATION:
Fast glucose is the fundamental base in every day control of diabetic patients. Together with postprandial glucose, it shows severe fluctuations.
OBJECTIVE:
To identify the daily behavior that has fast glucose in diabetic patients.
MATERIAL AND METHODS:
Design. -Descriptive, transversal. Population: 4,515 results from diabetic patients who attended to family medicine service consultation at the Zone General Hospital Number 9 of The Social Security Mexican Institute. Selection Criteria: Exams were ordered for diabetes mellitus control, and carried out at clinical analysis laboratory. Procedure: Glucose laboratory results of patients who had diabetes mellitus diagnostic were revised during one year. RESULTS: 66% of patients were female, while 31.9% had a job, and 31.5% of them were married. On the other hand, only 0.6% of patients had children, 23.7% had parents, 6.1% were retired, and also 6.1% had retired relatives. The general glucose average was 177.55 ± 76.1 mg/dl. Women general average was 182.79 ± 76.55 mg/dl while men’s was 168.24 ± 72.96 mg/dl (p<0.00001). Results by weekday were the following: Monday, 190.99 ± 76.48 mg/dl; Tuesday, 168.94 ± 74.65 mg/dl; Wednesday, 169.77% ± 73.55 mg/dl; Thursday, 174.05 ± 77.97 mg/dl; and Friday, 182.06 ± 74.45 mg/dl (p<0.000001).
CONCLUSIONS:
Patients had non-adequate fast glucose average for their severe metabolic control. Glucose results on Mondays were very superior compared to other days of the week. Women showed higher lack of control than men did.
