A study of Self-Image among Diabetic Adolescents

Diabetes mellitus as chronic illness during adolescent period creates dangerous problems both to patient and societies matter, which require to be investigated to achieve best possible physical and psychological health status. Therefore the current exploratory descriptive study aimed to investigate its effect on psychological self image of adolescents sample of convenience was consist of 70 diabetic adolescents (study group) and 70 healthy adolescents (control group) with very near similarity of age and gender .the study was conducted in the Diabetes institute, Nasser secondary school and Hafez Ibrahem language school at shoubra district. Data was collected through the use of two tools: sociodemograghice data sheet and self image questionnaire sheet the study revealed that diabetic adolescents have a negative psychological self, sexual self than the others with a statistically significant different. The control group has a more negative social self and coping self than study group with non- statistically significant different, but the study group has a positive family self the control group with non statistically significant difference.the study concluded that the diabetic adolescents have a negative self image than the healthy adolescents the study recommended that, nurses should understand the various psychological aspect, which accompany diabetes as a chronic disease, so that group counseling is beneficial for diabetic adolescents and families.
