Blood Glucose Testing Putting Accuracy First in Hospital, Home or Office
Manal Salah Hassan / Faculty of Nursing, Ain Shams University
Today, blood glucose monitoring takes place in the hospital, home and the physician’s office. Shortened hospital stays have increased pressure on laboratories for faster test results and new technology, more stable reagents and misconceptions have made glucose monitoring at the bedside common place. This method is now essential to make quick therapeutic decisions. Accurate and simple home monitoring is helping people with diabetes to maintain optimal health while reducing hypoglycemic episodes and long term complications. Although advances in speed and ease of use are desirable, accuracy remains the most important feature of any blood glucose test. Thus, regulatory agencies have established standards that ensure test reliability.
