Diabetic Foot Ulcers: Prevention and Management Strategies

Foot problems are the most common indicator for hospitalization for people with diabetes mellitus consuming more than $one billion. In health care annually approximately14% of all patients with diabetes mellitus will develop a foot or leg ulcer during the course of the disease. In this article review we will consider who is at high risk for developing diabetes foot ulcer, examine the etiology of these wounds and discuss management plans and patient education.
