Children experiencing surgical procedures require both psychological and physical preparation. Psychological preparation decreases their anxieties, promote their cooperation, supporting their coping scales and facilitates feelings of mastery in experiencing a potentially stressfully events. In addition to psychological preparation children usually require various types of physical care before surgery. Although, most preoperative care procedures are routine however the diabetic child's must be followed closely at the time of surgery because stress, infection and missed meals change insulin requirements. The trauma of surgery, infection and anesthesia caused hyperglycemia and the child's normal schedule as food intake is usually interrupted. The acute management of hyperglycemic patient depends on achieving and maintaining a normal blood glucose level. Fluid and electrolyte imbalance, infection and diminished wound healing are the risks of hyperglycemia in the surgical patient.
