About two to three of pregnancies are complicated by diabetes that either develops during pregnancy or was present before pregnancy. Women with diabetes should receive optimum care and education prior to conception to prevent interrupted pregnancy and congenital malformation. This care should be through pregnancy, labor till postnatal period. The nurse plays a critical role in providing management and education to prevent complications.
