Preventive Foot Care in People with Diabetes

Foot ulcers and amputations are major causes of morbidity, disability, as well as emotional and physical costs for people with diabetes.

Early recognition and management of independent risk factors for ulcer and amputations can prevent ordelay the onset of adverse outcome.

Recommendations for people who currently have no foot ulcers, and outlines the best means to identify and manage risk factors before afoot ulcer occurs or an amputation becomes imminent will include risk identification, foot exam, prevention of high risk condition, management of high risk condition and patient education.
