Definition
Diabetes
is a chronic metabolic disorder in which there is elevated
level of glucose in blood. Despite glucose is crucially needed
to provide energy for all body systems , yet its excess could
cause so many problems . Carbohydrates including sugars and
starches in the food are digested , absorbed and then converted
into glucose. Blood carries that glucose to all body cells.
where it used by all body cells as a fuel. to produce energy.
so a Person with diabetes has excess glucose in his blood
because of deficiency or inefficiency of his body insulin.
Insulin
Insulin
is a substance ( Hormone ) produced from the beta cells of
islets of langerhans located in the pancreas which is an organ
situated behind the stomach. Insulin is required for glucose
to enter the cells of the body where it is utilized to produce
energy . we could imagine insulin to be like a key which opens
the doors of the cells to allow glucose to enter. When insulin
is absent, or is deficient, or is defective, glucose cannot
enter the cells and remains in blood in high amounts.

to play roles.
